Pavement Rehabilitation and Thorough Geotechnical Surveys in Kootenay National Park – Highway 93S, AB

Customer : Public Works and Government Services Canada (PWGSC)

Englobe was asked to prepare a rehabilitation plan for the pavement along a 104km road in Kootenay National Park, located in the Rocky Mountains.

The rehabilitation plan needed to incorporate current best practices for the reuse and recycling of existing roadway materials, as well as a life-cycle cost analysis of the proposed solutions. The mandate also included a detailed geotechnical analysis of a major cracking problem.

The Englobe Advantage

The project was completed in environmentally sensitive areas (Kootenay and Banff national parks) requiring special care to protect groundwater and wildlife. Furthermore, ever-changing weather conditions caused frequent work interruptions, adding to the complexity of the task. Despite these challenges Englobe completed the work within a tight timeframe to minimize disturbances to park visitors.
