Celebrating 2020 and Looking Forward to a Successful 2021

December 21, 2020

New Years Resolution #1 – be more awesome than last year!

At Englobe, we’ve always believed that our people are our greatest asset, and this year has highlighted the authenticity of that statement. There is no doubt that 2020 was marked by unprecedented challenges, but it was also a year filled with many successes.

More than anything, this year was a reminder that our corporate culture is strong because of our never-ending commitment to make a real difference – for our team members, clients, communities, and planet.

Before we look forward to what the new year will bring, we want to reflect on this unusual year to celebrate our top achievements.

#1 Worked on Exceptional Projects. The best way to motivate and inspire talented engineers, scientists, and technical professionals is to deliver interesting and challenging projects for them to work on. In 2020, we did just that with once-in-a-lifetime technically dynamic projects that presented extraordinary growth opportunities.

  • Englobe is working on over 35 of the Top 100 Infrastructure projects in Canada, including 3 in the top 10, earning us the Platinum Elite 2021 status.
  • In 2020, we won our 1st Canadian Consulting Engineers Award of Excellence for Project Management presented by the Association of Consulting Engineering Companies – Canada (ACEC) for the Mould Bay project. Unique in every aspect this was an unbelievable project. Located on the 76th parallel on Prince Patrick Island in the Northwest Territories, Mould Bay is accessible only by air, has an extremely short and unpredictable operating weather window, and is surrounded by sensitive aquatic and land ecosystems. Required project management level: Challenge: Accepted.
  • Our team features some of the best technical professionals specializing in fields like pavement, geotechnical, materials, corrosion, and blast engineering. Involved in challenging projects like the *Nanticoke Stack Demolition, 2 stacks each 650 ft in height, or the award-winning Nanticoke Powerhouse Demolition that was the largest and most complex explosive toppling project ever to be managed by an entirely Canadian team.

*Note: The Nanticoke explosive toppling project was managed by DST a Division of Englobe.

#2 Invested in our people. Englobe made a commitment to job security and career development:

  • No job losses or wage cuts because of COVID-19 challenges: 300 employees were recalled to work and 2400+ employees reassured the pandemic would not threaten their livelihood and income.
  • Improved career path mobility: We made important progress towards our goal to provide employees in all regions with opportunities for upward mobility and cross-departmental experience.
  • Develop virtual mentorship and training opportunities for employees at all levels: From student interns to intermediate and senior positions, we provide valuable learning experiences, so everyone continues grow and improve.

#3 Launched a Sustainability Approach. In 2020, when the world’s attention settled on issues of health and wellness in their broadest sense, it was time for us to elevate our own commitment to our planet. In response, we set out a comprehensive Sustainability Approach. As a first step in this work in progress, we will identify better practices in every area of our business:

  • We will contribute to a healthy living environment.
  • We will reduce our company’s overall environmental footprint.
  • We will work to ensure Englobe’s continuing economic vitality.

#4 Stepped up Support for Community. We care about each other, our clients, and the work we do. It is our mission to use our expertise to make communities better and this year, we reinforced that promise.

  • Strengthened existing mental health supports to include Mental Health Awareness Training and a Mental Health Leaders Toolkit.
  • Shared the consistent message that it is ok to need help and that support is available, working to break the stigma surrounding mental health issues in the workplace.
  • Marked World Mental Health Day (October 10th) with donations to support community mental health programming totaling $40,000 worldwide.

Ahead: Bigger, more Complex, Award Worthy Projects

Looking forward to 2021, we will continue to ensure our talented people remain safe, healthy, and challenged with new opportunities. Our goal for the new year is to continue building a work environment that fosters continuous learning and improvement for our team members.

With 500+ new talent hired in 2020, there has never been a better time to consider a career with Englobe.
